TWINNIBS researchers participate in tACS challenge

The transcranial alternating current stimulation (tACS) Challenge (https://osf.io/gz84a/) presents a platform for the international non-invasive brain stimulation community to engage in a collaborative, cross-border endeavor. Its primary objective is to rigorously examine the real-time impact of tACS on behavior, specifically isolating the effects stemming from phasic current modulation within the brain rather than the influence of sensory factors that might be considered confounds. The specific experiment aim is to shed light on whether and how it might be possible to interact with endogenous frequencies, and specifically in the Alpha band, using tACS. The aim is to see whether tACS at Alpha frequency over the occipital pole inhibits perceptual ability in a visual discrimination task. 

The experiment will be conducted simultaneously in more than 20 labs across the world, with TWINNIBS partners engaged in both data collection (UNITN, IMR, REGIONH) as well as in steering the committee (UNITN, REGIONH). The tACS challenge is built on inclusivity and Open Science. The data about cross-lab reproducibility will be openly available via the OSF platform and published in the form of a Registered Report.
